About
Hiu
Hiu Chun Lee leads Eastern Canada operations for Keller North America, overseeing a major geotechnical business generating C$80–100M in annual revenue with full P&L responsibility. Over a 15-year career that progressed from Field Engineer to executive leadership, Hiu Chun has established Keller as a primary leader in Canadian specialty foundation and ground engineering. He directs multidisciplinary teams spanning engineering, operations, project management, finance, and business development, building high-performing units that execute complex developments safely and profitably. Throughout his career, he has successfully delivered more than 40 major projects across the country, including landmark initiatives such as the La Romaine 3 Hydro Project, Bloomington GO Station, Union Station, the Port Lands Flood Protection project, and the Ontario Line Pape Station.
Hiu Chun holds a Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) in Civil Engineering and a Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.Sc.) in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Toronto, and is a registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario. Combining deep technical knowledge with commercial strategy, his work has consistently introduced modern, low-carbon, and cost-effective ground engineering techniques to the Canadian market. He has driven the adoption of advanced ground improvement systems—including rigid inclusions, aggregate piers, and soil mixing—to optimize foundation designs and reduce risk across challenging build sites. More recently, he led the effort to establish diaphragm wall construction as a viable foundation and shoring solution for dense urban environments. On the Port Lands Flood Protection project, Hiu Chun led the pivotal transition from a traditional secant pile wall to a diaphragm wall, significantly improving constructability, reducing schedule risk, and generating substantial cost savings.
A dedicated contributor to industry knowledge and professional development, Hiu Chun frequently authors and reviews peer-reviewed technical papers on diaphragm walls, CFA piles, and foundation optimization. He actively shares project outcomes and best practices at major national and international forums, including the Deep Foundations Institute (DFI), Canadian Geotechnical Society (CGS), International Association of Foundation Drilling (ADSC), Canadian Dam Association, and ANTEC. Beyond his external technical contributions, Hiu Chun serves as a Keller North America Product Team member and sits on the Ontario Association of Foundation Specialists (OAFS). Within his organization and across the broader industry, he actively mentors emerging engineers, project managers, and field leaders, while collaborating with academic institutions and consultants to foster long-term technical innovation. By uniting technical rigor with executive vision, Hiu Chun continues to shape the future of heavy civil and geotechnical infrastructure across Eastern Canada.
